It was announced in The Budget  this year  that Tax-Free Personal Allowance, which is the amount people earn before they have to start paying income tax will increase to £11,000 in 2016/17.

The Government have an aim to increase the Personal Allowance to £12,500 by 2020, and a law shall come into place to ensure that once it reaches this level, those who are working 30 hours a week on the National Minimum Wage will not pay Income Tax at all.
